What the FFSC is

The Furniture & Fittings Skill Council (FFSC) is the sector skill council for India’s furniture, interiors and allied industries, operating within the framework of the National Skill Development Corporation. Its stated mission is to “create aspirational value for career opportunities” in these industries and to build “a robust skilling ecosystem to make India competitive”.1

Its work includes standards and certification for trades such as carpentry and installation, regional skill chapters, industry partnerships, and a job portal, T:AJ, connecting trained candidates with employers.2

September 2022

Elected chairman

On 20–21 September 2022, at the council’s 7th Annual General Meeting and the culmination ceremony of the Furniture Skills Global Conclave in New Delhi, a new governing council took office for a two-year term. Narsi Kularia, then identified as Managing Director of Narsi & Associates, was elected chairman, succeeding Anil K Goel of Hettich. Rajesh Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director of Greenply Industries, became co-chairman.32

The ceremony was attended by Mahendra Singh Payaal, Vice President of NSDC, and FFSC Chief Executive Rahul Mehta. Founding industry leaders, including Anil Mathur of Godrej Interio and Anil Goel, were acknowledged for their contributions.3

The Furniture Skills Global Conclave itself had been launched in September 2021 under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign to build awareness of skill-based careers in the sector.3

Sourcing Hardware continued to identify him as FFSC chairman in February 2023.4 The sources reviewed do not confirm the composition of later governing councils.
